PARTNER OF THE 2024-2025 EDITION: BENETTON

The Benetton Archive was created at the end of 2009 and is now part of Benetton Studios, a multifunctional area located in the Castrette (TV) factory. With the dual function of custodian of Benetton’s historical memory and workshop where the future is built, the Archive reconstructs the stages of Benetton’s corporate history, from the sixties to today, under the scientific responsibility of the Benetton Studi Ricerche Foundation.

The Archive occupies a total area of more than 1,200 square meters, with The European Commission, DG XIII, has published a report on the European Research Centre for Science and Technology in Europe. The Archive holds about 30,000 boxes of documents from the different areas of the company, including 180,000 iconographic and multimedia materials. The product section includes fabric sheets, sketches, paper sets, a collection of knitting points, historical fashion magazines, datasheets, color folders from the seventies, Archive of yarns, color references and yarns of current use. The knitwear archive, on the other hand, is located in Ponzano and consists of 12,000 pieces.

The Benetton Archive will be the protagonist of the final Project Work of this edition of the Fashion Archives course. Participants will have the opportunity to visit the Benetton Archive under the guidance of Managers Mara Lacagnina and Simona Da Ros, and to face a brief of exploitation of the Archive owned specifically designed by the company, so as to put into practice the skills acquired during the five modules of the course.

PARTNER OF THE 2023-2024 EDITION: WP WORK IN PROGRESS

Since 1982, Wp Lavori in Corso has contributed to defining the identity of multiple generations in terms of style and design, offering authenticity, quality and flair for international niche brands. After 40 years of research, WP has opened to the public a space with more than 80,000 items of clothing, 5500 books and various accessories, completed by the acquisition of the fund belonging to the stylist Gianfranco Ferré.

Usually accessible exclusively to scholars, researchers and professionals in the sector, the WP historical archive will be the protagonist of the final project work of the course. Thanks to the exchange of views with Gaia Vitolo – Archive Manager – and with her team, the participants will have the opportunity to put into practice the skills acquired in the development of a cataloguing project of the paper documentation accumulated by the company during its numerous collaborations with important international brands in the streetwear and workwear sector.

PARTNER OF THE 2022-2023 EDITION: MISSONI

The Missoni Archive is a treasure trove that preserves the history of a brand born 70 years ago and the artistic heritage that distinguishes Missoni from other fashion houses. It contains over 25,000 pieces of clothing from the Missoni men’s and women’s collections, as well as a host of accessories, shoes and bags, fabric samples, works of art and prints, Editorial, books, photographs and videos. It also preserves the artistic work of Ottavio Missoni consisting of patchwork tapestries, original drawings and textile studies.

A path among the most iconic motifs that Ottavio and Rosita have invented (stripes, zigzags, fiammati, flowers, patchwork etc) allows you to experience the harmony of a place rich in Art and Color even in a virtual dimension to interact with these iconic elements of the brand, mixed and combined with Armonia in the style of Put-together. History, Made in Italy and Fashion combine perfectly with digital technologies in a highly innovative project.

TEXTILE DESIGN ARCHIVE

Students will have the exclusive opportunity to visit the FRI.F textile design archive: over 30,000 drawings on paper and fabric, dated between the mid-19th century and the first decade of the 2000s, a precious source of inspiration for style offices and designers from the fashion sector to whom access is normally restricted. After a visit to the spaces dedicated to the museum exhibition and conservation of this incredible textile heritage and a detailed account of the different collections that compose it, they will have the opportunity to try their hand at a cataloguing laboratory of its most iconic pieces.
