WHY THIS MODULE?

This module is designed as an introduction to the world of fashion business archives. After an initial definition, the characteristics, materials and needs will be explored in depth, highlighting, through references to specific cases, what steps are necessary to constitute or reorganize them.

SPECIFICITY AND NEEDS OF THE SECTOR

with Giorgetta Bonfiglio Dosio, Former Full Professor of Archiving, University of Padua and Marinella Bianco, Archivist and co-founder of Acta Progetti

A day dedicated to analysing the fashion industry, with a specific focus on its unique needs and characteristics. Starting from theoretical and historical bases, practical examples and research cases will be used to further explore the requirements, limitations, and potential.

THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A FASHION ARCHIVE

with Francina Chiara, textile and fashion historian, specialist in textile and fashion archives

What can be found in fashion archives? What are the objects, products and documents that the different typologies have in common? What standards are in use? We will try to answer these questions, providing orientation on the materials and their conservation and treatment needs.

An archive whose history parallels the founder’s, preserving records of activities over the years. Established and organised in accordance with the highest conservation standards,  the Ferragamo historical archive keeps alive the memory of tradition and family values ​​through footwear, bags, clothing and silk accessories, but also documents, patents, photographs, films, works of art and thousands of volumes, exhibition catalogues and advertising material, documented in all aspects, from design to final production.

Logistics are at the expense of the student.
