Show-room materials for sustainable production
The heart of the project is an archive of textile materials, accessories and sustainable packaging solutions for fashion, coming from catalogues of selected suppliers throughout the national territory.
An open-shelf showroom inaugurated in December 2021 which currently has over 120 mapped companies and 2500 references already industrialized and available for sustainable production on a small or large scale. Alongside traditional recycled wool, there are more innovative products such as regenerated silk, trimmings made from leftover yarns, recycled polyester jersey, compostable bags, buttons, zips, ribbons and bands in aluminium or recycled polyester, distinguished by type of frame, fibre, weight or material.
The digital
catalogue
All the samples were digitized in very high definition in order to restore three-dimensionality and details of the materials even in an easy remote consultation, as close as possible to an in-person evaluation. Each corresponds to a digital card that specifies technical characteristics and related certifications, to allow functional research for the product to be created.
A survey conducted by Blumine Srl, scientific partner of the project, also classified suppliers and products on a voluntary basis based on hundreds of parameters aggregated into 5 macro themes, investigating the sustainability performances inherent to climate action, chemical safety, circular economy, human rights and biodiversity conservation. This first report offers an insight into the environmental and social sustainability trends of the Italian textile supply chain.
Suppliers
The companies involved mostly come from the large Italian textile districts, such as Prato, Biella, Vicenza, Como, and from Emilia Romagna for what concerns accessories and packaging.
Between these:
Cotonificio Albini SpA, BerBrand, Elastici Besana, Boselli 1898, Canclini SpA, Mantero Seta SpA, Olmetex SpA, Pontetorto SpA, Teseo SpA, Texmoda Tessuti Srl, Vitale Barberis Canonico SpA.
Sustainability consultancy
The choice of materials with sustainable characteristics for packaging should be considered only the first step towards the conversion to the green paradigm, the adoption of which requires time, investments and strategy, to be integrated into a long-term program that must be undertaken with conviction.
For this reason, Punto Sostenibilità aims to accompany companies through sustainability consultancy from partners with proven experience, to identify the specific needs of each reality and the best solutions to realize or develop them.
TRAINING FOR PROFESSIONALS
For professionals looking for a complete compendium on the subject, F.FRI offers “Green Fashion: needs and tools for sustainable fashion”. An executive course useful for corporate activity as well as for the freelance profession which, through case studies of important manufacturers, testimonies from professionals and consultants in the sector and authoritative university professors, intends to offer a valid update:
on the selection of materials with sustainability characteristics;
on the guidelines and certifications necessary to start or complete one’s path of conversion towards an entirely sustainable production approach;
an insight into the most suitable communication strategies to enhance one’s corporate reputation.
