What does a Fashion Heritage Manager do?
A Fashion Heritage Manager is a professional specialized in the management, preservation, and enhancement of a company’s cultural and historical heritage. A key figure enhancing corporate memory and identity, playing a significant role in the fashion industry.
What will you learn?
- Establishing and maintaining a Textile and Fashion Archive: You will lay the foundation for building an archive in the fashion industry and will be able to understand the importance of corporate memory and the methods for collecting, organizing, and preserving textile materials and historical documents.
- Cataloging and digitization: You will be able to convert tangible assets into easily accessible and well-organised digital resources by virtualising and classifying archival documents in accordance with international standards.
- Communication and Heritage Management: Through publications, exhibitions, and other storytelling tools, you will learn how to create captivating tales that improve the brand’s history and identity while using archival memory to produce effective communication strategies.

Students will have the opportunity to deepen the knowledge gained during the course by addressing a brief provided directly by the Salvatore Ferragamo Group Archives, addressing a real need for the company’s archival enhancement.

Benetton archive
The Benetton Archive will be the focus of the final project work of this edition of the Fashion Archives course. Participants will have the opportunity to visit the Benetton Archive under the direction of Directors Simone Da Ros and Mara Lacagnina, and to conduct a briefing on improving the Archive’s holdings, which was created by the company, in order to apply the knowledge gained throughout the course’s five modules.

WP Lavori in corso
WP Lavori in Corso has been defining generations’ styles through quality and research since 1982. After 40 years, it has opened an archive with over 80,000 garments, 5,500 books, and the Gianfranco Ferré collection, usually accessible only to experts. This heritage will be the focus of the course’s Project Work, offering participants, guided by Gaia Vitolo, the opportunity to catalog the historical documentation related to WP’s collaborations with international streetwear and workwear brands.

Missoni Archive
The Missoni Archive brings together more than 25,000 pieces of apparel, accessories, textiles, artwork, and editorial materials that highlight the brand’s distinctiveness, preserving 70 years of its history.It also houses Ottavio Missoni’s artistic creations, including patchwork tapestries and original drawings. The exhibition, also accessible virtually, allows visitors to explore the brand’s iconic motifs, an expression of the Put-together style. The Archive was the focus of the 2022-2023 Project Work of the Fashion Archives course, with students guided by Luca Missoni in a project to enhance printing transparencies, which was ultimately presented to the company board.
